Comet is the second largest electrical retailer in the UK with an annual turnover in excess of £1.5 billion, a consistent growth record and profits of c£40-45 million.  We have been established since 1933 and remain a major UK retailing brand.

Comet is an operating company within KESA, Europe’s third largest electrical (& furniture retailing) group with 790 stores, operating in nine European countries.  All operating companies within KESA share the same trading philosophy, to have the best price, the best choice and best service.  The other operating companies within KESA are Darty (no.1 electrical retailer in France), BUT, BCC, Vanden Borre and Datart.

Comet is striving to be a true multi-channel retailer and we currently operate c250 stores, a Head Office in Rickmansworth, a Business Centre in Hull, an award winning Web Site, 20 Service Centres, 15 Home Delivery Platforms, 2 Call Centres and 4 Distribution Centres. We have 258,000 miles sq. of selling space and we employ around 11,000 colleagues.

In August 2005 Comet launched its new Vision to be “Britain’s most trusted electrical specialist” and at the heart of this new Vision, is our need to continue to grow in a rapidly changing, increasingly competitive marketplace and to improve our customer service offering across the whole of our business.

In the years that have followed the launch of the new Vision, Comet has implemented some key, strategic improvements to its business including the rebranding of all its stores, heavy investment in store development, a powerful new advertising campaign, major customer service initiatives, and an overhaul of our highly popular website.  We have also launched a set of Customer Commitments, which set down the standards our customers can expect in terms of service, value and advice.

Our Colleagues

Comet may be one of the UK's leading electrical retailers, but we do far more than simply sell electrical products. We like to give our customers the benefit of our experience and provide them with the best advice. Whether it's a washing machine, wide-screen TV or a set of curling tongs they're after, we make sure our customers get exactly what they need.

It takes lots of different people to make that happen and not just the huge number of dedicated sales colleagues we employ in our stores. There are also the Home Delivery drivers carrying out installations into customer’s homes, the After-Sales Service teams helping customers get the most out of their products through repairs and service, and the specialists working in Head Office supporting our customer-facing colleagues and helping the Business to grow and improve.

And what’s more Comet is a truly multi-channel retailer.  Our hugely successful website www.comet.co.uk remains the most visited electrical retailer online and is continually being improved by our dedicated Web team to make shopping online far more convenient for our customers e.g. with new tools such as “Click and Collect” recently added.
The website and our stores are supported by a strong team of customer associates in our Customer Information Centre who handle thousands of calls each year with the Customer Support Centre in Clevedon supporting our service operation. Our Comet Business Services team does an award-winning job of securing corporate, business-to-business revenue with clients such as the Royal British Legion and major hotel chains.
